A footballer paralysed in a nightclub fight a year ago says it is “soul destroying” police are dropping the case.

Former Braintree Town goalkeeper Nicky Morgan, was left unable to walk after smashing his head on a kerb outside Sugar Hut in Brentwood on October 28 last year.

A 34-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident, but he has now been released without charge.

Essex Police has concluded the injuries were caused by an “accidental fall”.

Mr Morgan, 26, who had been playing for Billericay Town, has now returned to Braintree in a role coaching the club’s young goalkeepers.
