Yobs hurled a cat and concrete at a car on a dual carriageway and then cheered as the driver lost control.

The 53-year-old driver feared she would die in the attack on the A131 near Great Leighs racecourse when about seven teenagers flung a two-foot-wide concrete block at her white Ford S-Max.

It hit the side of her car causing it to swing round and then she saw them throw the young tabby cat which hit the bonnet.

Police have been unable to find the cat and it is unclear how badly injured it was.

The Broomfield Hospital nurse was driving to her Coggeshall home after finishing work at about 8pm and slowed to about 40mph when she saw the group jostling each other by the roadside.

She said: “I am lucky to be here, my children may not have had a mother, it could have been fatal.
