Braintree: Grandfather has house burgled while recovering in hospital from stroke
2:00pm Wednesday 31st October 2012 in News
A grandfather had thousands of pounds of belongings stolen from his house while he was in hospital recovering from a stroke.
Among items stolen from the home of war veteran Eric Overall, 87, was jewellery belonging to his late wife Gladys, who died last year.
Mr Overall has been in hospital since he suffered a stroke three weeks ago, although his family hope he will be able to return home later this week.
Burglars broke into Mr Overall’s bungalow in Plains Field, Braintree, on Friday night, through the window of the kitchen door.
Once inside the property, they stole items including a washing machine, a television and a Sky TV box.
The burglars also took items from a jewellery box and an engraved gold watch, given to Mr Overall when he retired from his job as a warehouseman at George Harker and Co, in Park Drive, Braintree.
Mr Overall’s son Archie, 50, and daughter-in-law Tracey, 49, discovered the break-in when they checked on the property on Saturday.
