Five of its staff collected 412 piles of dog mess in four hours just one month after the last clear up.

The council is teaming up with Friends of the Flitch Way, Rayne Parish Council and Essex County Council’s park rangers to remind people to clear up after their dogs or face a fine of £1,000 as part of its Green Heart of Essex campaign.

Councillor Wendy Schmitt, cabinet member for place said: “This anti-social behaviour by irresponsible dog owners is a public health risk and spoiling everyone else’s enjoyment of the Flitch Way."

Poster campaign! Really? Waste of money and effort. There is a dog fouling warning sign on a lamp post outside my house but it is totally ignored, three times I have had to contact the council to come and clear dog mess up from right underneath it!! Also I'd like to know when walking along the Flitch Way how the general public are expected to get the names and addresses of these dog owner "offenders" to report them?

Don't understand why the fine is Up to £1000, it should be £1000!!!!
Why not pay someone to follow people with dogs and film them for court purposes and pay them a percentage of the fine, it would soon stop then!
We are too lenient.
