Braintree: Gig organised for care charity Braintree: Gig organised for care charity

A gig spanning five decades of musical hits takes place this week in aid of a local care charity.

Singers and musicians from the area will be uniting on Friday at the Orange Tree pub in Cressing Road, Braintree.

The event has been organised to raise money for the Care Leavers Information Project (CLIP).

Lead singer of covers band Rekovered, Mike von Beardingham, is the man responsible for arranging the gig.

He said: “I was inspired to organise this event because the charity we are supporting raises money to help provide services for young people after they come out of the care system.

“This is a very difficult and trying time for them when a lot of help is needed, as very few have anybody to support or guide them.

“CLIP aims to fill those needed roles to give the care leavers the best chance at creating a life for themselves.

“Several of the performers involved in the gig have been through the system themselves, so it is a cause that is close to many of our hearts.

“We hope that as well as being entertaining and memorable, the gig raises awareness of what the charity does and how any contributions – however big or small - can make such a difference to someone’s life.”

As well as Rekovered, performers from local bands including Batman’s Cat, Better Than Your Boyfriend and Optimus Prime will be lending a hand to the show.

Musicians from Braintree Musical Society will also be performing on the night.

The gig starts at 7.30pm, with an entrance fee of £5 on the door.
