Witham: Dawn raids as part of illegal waste crackdown
THREE suspects were arrested in dawn raids as part of a crackdown on illegal waste sites.
Essex Police officers, Environment Agency officers and members of the New Scotland Yard-based London Regional Asset Recovery Team targeted an address in Church Road, Hatfield Peverel at 5.30am last Wednesday ***24 oct**.
Addresses in Stratford and Loughton were also searched.
A 24-year-old and 61-year-old from the Witham area and a 46-year-old from Loughton were arrested on suspicion of committing an offence under the Environmental Protection Act and released on bail.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Illegal waste sites or fly-tipping puts the environment at risk and a significant amount of taxpayers’ money is used to clear sites like these.
“This sort of illegal activity must be stopped and we would encourage people to provide us or the police with information that will help find those responsible and to prevent these kinds of incidents happening.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
