Essex: Airport trials new body scanner

The new body scanner The new body scanner

Stansted Airport has begun trialling a new security body scanner.

It detects any potential threats and prohibited items after a passenger has activated the walk-through security arch.

The machine highlights to security officers the area to search via a generic mannequin-type computer image.

It is said to provide an additional and less intrusive method of security screening and reducing the need for pat-down searches.

The trial will run for three months.
