Cadets celebrated the opening of their new unit.

There was a good turn out for the opening of 1163 Squadron Air Training Corps' new headquarters in Courtauld Playing Fields, Colchester Road, Halstead, on June 22.

The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre, was guest of honour at the ceremony, who officially opened the unit.

The classrooms were dedicated to Tom Lee, known as Tommy, who was one of the first cadets through the door in 1941, Brian Firmin, Halstead stalwart, ex Flight Commander in Earls Colne, and Ian Tolfts, group captain.

Cadets then paraded and were presented with awards.
