More than 100 jobs have been lost as a firm which manufactures office furniture has gone into administration.

Two former employees at JF Nott in Witham have said they were "disgusted" with the way redundancies have been handled.

On Monday JF Nott in Witham's Eastways industrial estate was handed over to Kroll - an international risk consulting company.

Sarah Smith and Adrian Barber, both 24, had been with the company for more than six years between them.

The couple, who live in Elizabeth Avenue, Witham, and have an eight-month-old baby daughter, Kelsie, said they feel they have been "kept in the dark" and the way the redundancies were handled made them "very angry."

We are ALL owed wages, there have been no letters to confirm redundancy or any help as to how to claim payments, families like mine have no money coming in, no help offered. We have been treated like we dont count!!!
Most of my colleges have been reliable and loyal to this company with long term service and deserve better !!!!
I think i can speak for 99% of the staff and say we are all very angery at the way this has been handled.

It seems that all those who worked for Open Plan have been forgotten, J F Nott employees have been given letters on how to claim because they are in administration , apparently ,Kroll (the receivers) wont discuss anything with employees from Open Plan as they are not on JFN payroll, that means that OP is not with the receivers and therefore no one actually cares what happends to the employees. No money, advice or help has been forthcoming to the employees of Open Plan, i think its disgusting how they have all been treated !!!

Someone needs to highlight the plight of Openplan staff. As the wife of an employee i simply cannot find the words to express my anger, i can barely contain it. To have not even been paid for work which has already been done is unthinkable. We came back from visiting relatives abroad to find this living hell waiting for us. Our 4 year olds life has been turned upside down through no fault of ours and it is heartbreaking. Where the heck are all the directors etc? WE NEED HELP AND ANSWERS NOW! How are we supposed to live on thin air while they've all dissapeared into the woodwork? People could be driven to drastic measures when they can see no way out of this nightmare.

It may be fine for the directors etc to sit back and wait for all the debt to be declared as JFN's but what about the workers? It's always the poor man who suffers. Openplan employees need to stick together over this and fight for what they're owed. Come on people, stand up and fight! Don't let them get away with this on the quiet as they are obviously aiming to do just that.

No doubt the directors will escape unscathed and rewarded whilst leaving their employees to flounder in debt. This appears to be the common culture in the UK. Isn't it time that executive responsibility and rewards was matched against their failure and appropriate sanctions introduced? Time and time again we hear of mismanagement but the executives always seem to get away with some sort of bonus for theire failure. Could you apply this same criteria to the "shop floor"? Most British workers are diligent and consciencious about their work however boring it may be. They even boast about their production figures in some cases. Why should they (the producers) be penalised because of bad judgement by the highly paid and greedy executives. Alan Wickens, Greece commented on 28-Jun-2008 21:36

I could not agree more. Directors such as these should have sanctions applied to the way they run a business for eg. 5 to 10 years so they think twice about doing things that may affect the business and ultamately cause so much misery to so many people. The Directors etc. called in the administrators solely to protect their own financial interests and really could not care less about us poor workers who have bent over backwards to turn out the work. The administrators are just as guilty of failing to keep the workers informed about what was going on since all the way along they have been influential in how much money was to be saved and by what methods. When it was first talked about at the end of May a saving of 20% of the wage bill across the group was stated, this within a week or so increased to 50% of the wage bill all obvoiusly at the say so of these administrators. Then we come to this where the workers at two of the group factories are just dumped without any consideration. According to some reports these Directors still have OpenPlan, which reportedly has not gone into administration, so they live on with no compassion for the nearly 200 workers (from JF Nott Ltd and Regis Furniture in Kent). All in all both the Directors and administrators have acted disgracefully in this matter and failed to keep the workforce fully informed of the situation. Their silence is deafening. The scales of balance in this country have tipped too far the other way and employers can virtually do what they want to do without any regard to the workers. They walk away unscathed and we are left with unemployment and a booklet and yet another form to fill in with no assistance from anyone at the firm. The company did say they would help the workers affected by this catastrophe. Where is that help now? very hollow words indeed.

Openplan employees have been dumped on from a great hight. No letter, no communication, how the heck can we claim anything?

Openplan employees are physically taking themselves to the gates of the factory in desperate attempts to get some information and help. DISGUSTING!

ADMINISTRATORS: Paid

DIRECTORS: Paid, safe,and unscathed

WORKERS: Unemployed, NO MONEY, dumped on, ignored, not cared about.
Is this really Britain 2008 or are we living in the dark ages.
It's a real pity the Directors and Administrators don't live in the real world. We can only live in hope that these people fall on bad times. I certainly want to be at the front of the queue to witness their suffering.
