A regular user of Witham's River Walk has criticised the Environment Agency for letting graffiti there spoil the environment.

Jon Richmond, 36, an IT manager of Powers Hall End, Witham, feels the walk is being "degraded" by graffiti on buildings of the Guithavon Valley Gauging Station.

After approaching the agency, which owns the buildings, he said he was told the decision was taken to stop cleaning them as the graffiti kept reappearing.

He said: "To my mind graffiti is not a huge problem in Witham as such, but the River Walk suffers horribly because it's got this disastrous thing in it, a terrible eyesore of a building, and the Environment Agency, despite being the Environment Agency, don't give two hoots about the environment and making it look halfway decent."
