Day centre celebrates anniversary
A popular day centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
Since 1978, the number of Halstead Day Centre members has exploded.
When it was set up in the Senior Citizens Centre, New Street, there were just 11 members.
The centre, now based in Bridge Street, has a record 90 elderly visitors, aged 74-95, who would otherwise be completey housebound.
Although knitting is a favourite activity, they even enjoy exercise classes, pool, darts, bowls, bingo and trips to the centre's Brightlingsea beach hut.
Ivy Flahant, 93, of Symonds Court, Halstead, said: "We have a laugh here. It's good company."
Celebrations will take place in November, the month it was founded.
They are currently admitting new members.
For more information call the centre on 01787 476253 .
