Car hits tree
Two elderly people were taken to hospital after a car collided with a tree.
Three fire engines were called to an accident earlier this afternoon in Witham Road, Black Notley, and a man and a woman had to be cut free from the car.
The accident happened at about 3.55pm as the driver of a blue Ford Fiesta reportedly hit a kerb and veered across the road.
The car ended up crashing into a tree in the front garden of a house.
Two fire crews from Braintree and one from colchester were joined on the scene by police and ambulance services.
The road had to be closed and traffic built up before the elderly man and woman were cut free using hydraulic cutting equipment at about 5.05pm.
Spokesmen for the police and ambulance services said initial reports showed that the injuries were not severe.
