Plus for park project
A project to transform a town park has been handed a boost as a council has pledged to increase the funds they will commit.
Braintree Council started a long-term project last year to rejuvenate Witham park with the hope of securing a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Jenny Claydon, project manager and landscape architect, is the driving force behind the project and at a meeting of Witham's environment committee she asked the council to consider investing more money in the project.
"The council has pledged £24,000 already, I'm here to beg for the council to consider increasing that so we can take this forward with more confidence," she said.
Mrs Claydon also managed to secure a commitment from the council to employ a park warden when the new park is eventually in place.
Work is likely to begin in 2010 at the earliest but it was a step in the right direction, as far as Mrs Claydon was concerned, as councillors voted to contribute £10,000 to the project for five years.
