Chair: AFC Energy plc (2007-), Eco City Vehicles plc (2007-); Director Groupe Eurotunnel SA (2007-).

Personal Overview - Has a background in business and working in a senior position in a Charity. His building Ministerial career was ended in 1994 after allegations that he had fathered an illegitimate child, which were very damaging, particularly in the wake of John Major's now infamous 'Back to Basics' Conservative Party Conference speech. Now in Opposition, his career has recovered. This was particularly evident for the significant support he attracted as the Conservative lead in agricultural matters during the Foot and Mouth Crisis of 2001. Strangely he was somewhat marginalised to the Culture Department Shadow in the first IDS Shadow Cabinet, before being brought back more centre-stage to the Trade & Industry brief. Was moved to Shadow the key social portfolios of Health and Education by Michael Howard in late 2003, both areas where the Conservatives would need to improve their public perception to make up ground on the Labour Government. Was moved to Shadow Environment & Transport when the Health & Education portfolios were split up at the 2004 reshuffle. Stood down from front bench politics after the 2005 General Election, wanting to spend more time formulating the future direction of the party, with particular interest in climate change issues. Became a Select Committee Chairman in 2005 covering Environmental Audit and maintained a Committee Chairmanship in 2010, moving to Energy and Climate Change.

PPS to Douglas Hurd MP, Home Secretary (1988-89), Foreign & Commonwealth Secretary (1989-90), Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Environment (1990-92), Department of Health (1992-93), Minister of State for the Environment (1993-94).
