Socom – Tactical Strike

Platform: PSP
Age 16
RRP £24.99

Tactics again then - on the screen of the PSP. An impossibility you may think, but you can do it, with some patience.

Not too much mind, as there are bullets whizzing past you and your squad as you take on SOCOM Navy Seals Tactical Strike. See where the tactics comes in now?

A little like the Rainbow 6 games - your squad of four broken into two fire teams can be sent off to do your nasty work, while you rest and drink tea.

OK, not quite that easy - and each decision has of course had to be at least thought out a little before you send the guys off into oblivion.

As you jump from man to man, it is easy to wonder where you are, but the disorientation will diminish with time

A nice touch is you can in effect see in advance where you are sending the blokes off to and attempt to make a decision on whether they will have enough cover once they arrive.

Stealth and hammer is one tactic, or you could just go charging in and hope your boys will realise what they have to do. This is pretty much discouraged by the game as you tend to get mown down rather rapidly.

Basic storyline is go fetch a US Ambassador from the bad guys in Panama . That really is beside the point with this game - it rewards clever thinking and dastardly tactics, so think man think.
