Braintree District Museum is holding a First World War commemorative event with lots of activities to keep everyone amused.

Key features of the day will include a full size replica First World War M1.C Bristol fighter plane, interactive demonstrations of First World War uniform and equipment with the Braintree Cadets and the chance to join in live period music with Braintree Musical Society.

There will also be researchers on hand to give advice on researching your relatives in First World War, lectures on First World War weaponry and gas warfare and the opportunity to try some ‘trench cake’ made to an authentic First World War recipe.

The day is running from 10am until 3pm on Saturday (25th October) and entry is £1.50 per person, including the chance to look round the popular First World War exhibition Braintree District at War – 1914-1918.

The day has been validated by the Children’s University and family craft workshops will be running throughout the day.

Jennifer Brown, collections and interpretation officer at the museum, said: “We hope the day will prove an interactive and engaging way for visitors to find out more about local experiences of the war, both at home in Braintree and away at the front.

“From drop-in demonstrations to lectures, music and food we have aimed to put together a program that offers many routes in to this important, moving and sometimes complex area of history.”
