Where to start with the biggest game of the year by far? Those new to the CoD series will be stunned. And perhaps amazed.

Old timers like me who have played them all will be majorly disappointed with the online side.

Single player is amazing. I finished the game after an all-night session, literally, and was blown away by some sections, and utterly frustrated by others.

And then there is that airport scene with you as a good guy going undercover with the terrorist everyone is after and mowing down crowds of innocents. Turns out this is a key turning point in the story. But why not just shoot the bad guy yourself while there. Simple. But no. So the suspension of belief is required a few times, but this is a game.

Just not sure that scene needed to be so graphic, but like I said, it’s to hold up a major storyline.

You get spectacular set pieces, a lot of emotion, plenty of atmosphere, and the developers have gone back to letting you pick your own line through the maps, rather than lead you by the neck through every step. So now you can sneak around the back of the squad trying to take you out. Graphics and details are faultless.

Snipers, choppers, aerial assaults with camera guided missiles, skidoos, oil rigs, and local neighbourhoods which were my faves. Interesting the way some people decorate.

But let’s get the main point. Online with the PC version. This was the life blood of previous episodes, but this time, it seems we are out in the cold. No lobby to pick your game, so you can’t get a group of friends together on your own. Can’t help thinking this is going to simply die online apart from the console users of course.

All you do is ask to go online and the game looks for one for you and drops you in – you don’t seem to be able to pick and choose, and that’s painful. Think I also saw there is a limit on the numbers of players in a server too. Consoles again which don’t have the power of top end PCs. If all this is true, it needs to be changed.

I know many CoD fans who play on PC have already said they won’t bother with this one and will stay with the first Modern Warfare.
