Survive the Christmas party season with ease

IT’S that time again – Christmas party time.

Most office workers are thinking about where to go, how to get their name on the guestlist at parties they are not invited to, which party to turn down, and the ever-important question... what to wear?

In this slightly gloomy time, we all deserve to be able to let our hair down. Most companies are providing their staff with some form of Christmas entertainment, even if it is slightly more low-key than previous years.

Something is better than nothing. If your company is not having a party, there are plenty of shindigs to go to with friends to get into the Christmas spirit.

However, this is where we Brits always go wrong! Any excuse for a good old-fashioned knees-up and manners, morals and, more importantly, going back to work the next day to see colleagues are forgotten about!

fish4jobs.co.uk has compiled a list of tips to ensure everyone has a good night out with colleagues and to get into the spirit of Christmas – at the same time eliminating any embarrassing moments when going back to work.

• Pace yourself – remember it is not a drinking competition just because the drink is free. Revellers can have as much fun on less alcohol, and actually remember the evening
• Water – drink plenty of water in between alcoholic drinks
• Food – eat plenty on the day of the party and, if there is food on the night, try and line the stomach with as much as you can!

• Kissing under the mistletoe – just because you have had a drink and fancy the guy or girl in accounts, this does not mean you can launch yourself on them at the Christmas party.

Best to be subtle and approach with caution

• Dancing on the tables – never a winner at a work’s do, even if the boss is up there grooving away to Abba. Just because someone else is doing it, does not mean its OK!

• Taxi – if the company is not supplying transport home, pre-book a taxi before the night begins
• Money – ensure you have enough money to get home safely. This saves having to stop outside cash machines when drunk. Never the best plan for safety.
