Catalytic converter thieves hit Halstead

Police have warned the public to be vigilant following catalytic converter thefts.

Three catalytic converters were recently stolen within two days.

Thieves stole a £4,300 catalytic converter from a tipper lorry in Fenn Road, Halstead.

The vehicle, belonging to Balfour Beatty, was targeted between 5:30pm on May 8 and 6:30pm the following day.

Thieves stole a £500 catalytic converter from a silver Ford Ranger in Coggeshall Way, Halstead, at 10:30pm on May 8.

Two young men were spotted damaging the vehicle.

One was underneath it.

Another silver Ford Ranger was targeted in Bois Hall Gardens, Halstead, between 7:30pm on May 8 and 7:30am on May 9.

This time the catalytic converter was valued at £1,500.

Sgt Chris Sharp, Halstead Police, said: "It's become more prevalent.

"It's a concern that it could be rearing its ugly head in our area."
