Points are all-important for Patterson

Lee Patterson said today Braintree Town's end-of-season programme is all about results rather than good football.

Undefeated in their last five Blue Square South games, the Iron boss said: "It's just about winning now.

"We need to win our final seven games and, if we do, I'm sure the lads will make the promotion play-offs for the second season running.

"But we can't afford to get too carried away.

"One look at the league table will show you that any of the top 11 clubs can still be in the promotion frame by the time the play-offs come around.

"Our next two games, at home to sixth-placed Bath City on Saturday and away to fourth-placed Hampton and Richmond next Tuesday, are very crucial to our chances.

"Even if we win those two we'll still be chasing the pack.

"There's still a long way to go. Lots of clubs are playing for play-off positions, but I want to give Bratintree Town the best chance I can.

"Every point from now until the end of the season is crucial and anyone in this league is capable of beating anyone else.

"So forget about how we play from now on - it's results that matter and I'll be majorly disappointed if we don't make the play-offs."

Braintree are currently eighth in the table, four points behind the play-off pack but with vital games in hand on all but two of the clubs - Lewes and Hampton and Richmond - above them.

Patterson said his move to Braintree as George Borg's replacement earlier in the season is the best thing to have happened to him.

He added: "Braintree has been fantastic for me - I love it.

"It is a big club, an ambitious club. I'm ambitious and I would have crawled to Cressing Road on my hands and knees for the chance to do the job.

"And if we had had everybody fit and well throughout the season we would have had a lot more points than we have now.

"But I can't look at what might have been. I can only look ahead week by week, game by game and right now I'm only looking as far as Bath City on Saturday.

"I watched them on Monday and noted a few chinks in their armour. Now it's up to us to go out and beat them."

Braintree were due to play Burnham Ramblers of the Essex Senior League in a Cressing Road friendly last night.
