The society held its annual autumn show on Saturday and a record number of entries made it a highly successful event and most gratifying to committee members to see their work rewarded.
Thanks are due to the helpers and suppliers of cakes for the tea room which was busy all afternoon.
Chairman John Upson presented the prizes and the winners included: Beddoe Cup (fruit and vegetables), RHS Banksian Medal, Murphy Chemical Cup (chrysanthemums) and Roy Turner Cup (best exhibit) J Goodall; Isted Cup (dahlias) and Basil Frost Trophy PD Ottaway; Rose Plaque Mrs Farthing and D Dawson; Jacques Vinall Cup (fuchsia competition) I Dawson; Bowl Trophy (cooking) J Earney; Kynaston Trophy (handicraft) Mrs Farthing; Guilder Cup (children) Tommy Price and Kiera Jarvis; Wine Trophy PD Ottaway; Shutter Trophy (photography) T Price; best cake I Dawson; best tray J Goodall; best vase P Duffield; Lesley King Cup A Stebben; Cramphorn Cup S and P Turner; best dahlia PD Ottaway; best fuchsia I Dawson; best sunflower Stephen Miller.
The best allotment on the old site was won by Anthony Stebbing and on the new site by Sheila and Phil Turner.
Thomas Smith was awarded a special prize for the high standard of his allotment. The best front garden prize was won by G and M Blake.
