The speaker at this month’s meeting was Cherry Fisher whose talk, Wonderful Words, included a selection of poems from her vast collection.

Mary Weston was presented with a birthday posy. The competition for a limerick was won by Barbara Turner.

The raffle was won by Christine Rendell and the proceeds will help towards the refurbishment of the Essex room at Denman College.

A report was given on a members’ coach trip to the college in Oxfordshire, where they had a tour of the main house and bedrooms, lunch and a cookery demonstration.

In October, there will be a social gathering for members, followed by the annual meeting on November 12, when Val Stone, a WI adviser, will oversee the appointment of a new committee.
