School pays tribute

11:20am Friday 23rd November 2001

PUPILS from Swan Valley Community School paid their respects by laying a wreath to those who died in the First World War.

They were on a trip to Ypres and the Somme as part of their history curriculum.

The wreath was laid at the Menim gate in Ypres during the Last Post Ceremony by year nine pupils Sean France and Liam Robinson from the school in Ash Road, New Ash Green.

Swan Valley Community School vice-principal Andrea Ferris commenting on the wreath laying, said: “It was a particularly special occasion as it was the 250,000 time the ceremony had taken place and dignitaries from sev-eral Commonwealth countries including the Duke of Edinburgh were there to lay the wreaths.

“Throughout the trip the pupils received praise for the questions and interest they showed.”
