Hadleigh Park to get visitor centre and cycle track (From Braintree and Witham Times)

Have I ever agreed with Dave Blackwell on here before? Oh well, first time for everything I suppose. The council are obviously on a roll. If it's ancient unspoilt greensward, build on it.

y the few 'NIMBYS' have not prevailed over the many people who will get enjoyment from the facilities.

Good news for be young of this country that deserve Olympic quality provisions to be made so they can train and compete on the same level as most non third world countries.

Good news however wit for all the prophets of doom comments.

That area in he 60's was used for motor bike moto cross so it is not actually a historical green field site.

just as long as there's still enough room for all the local dog owners to take their dogs for a crap it'll all be copacetic....

Dave Blackwell is he saying that it will spoil an area of natural beauty Q 'spoil it for who' are walkers and cyclists are the so called people? Have cyclist and walkers from all over Essex not just a few residents got the right to enjoy a purpose built area for people, I do not hear people moaning from Southend when I visit East Beach or Leigh Marshes on my cycle.

These Councillors should STOP being enclosed in their own little world and look at the rights of other folk to enjoy the area.

It is also vital to give ample well run professional facilities to our young athletes.

Stop complaining about change it is something that has and hopefully will continue long after our generation is dead and buried.

As for Politician the only ones that makes sense is Bill Dick advising the idiots to 'Belt up'.

If you're a cyclist why do you need an Olympic track, mass of buildings and a car park to ride the downs? It really is exhilarating enough without them (take on the hill at the side of the castle if you want proof). You don't have to concrete over the countryside to enjoy it - as was well proven by the motocross events that used to be televised from there in the sixties and seventies - all you need is a bike. I really don't understand why it's necessary to create a mini industrial estate. Perhaps you can explain it to me?

Idiot! To answer that is simple Cyclist are being killed on the road everyday roads in this area are diabolical other that the provisions made at Southend seafront area.

Did you know Castle Point Council have done NOTHING for cyclist other than pretend they have, a good example is past their own building on tne main A13, they have put up cycle route signs along the footpath past their building and try to get them to admit it is a safe cycle route !!! They will not safe and cyclist must use the main carriages ay to keep within the Law.
Castle Point should take no comfort WHATSOEVER in providing safe car free passages especially right along the main road past their own offices !!

Any provision in this area for cyclists is GOOD and NO they do not need to concrete over countryside JUST SAFE ROUTES FOR CYCLISTS.

By providing facilities surely even someone like you must admit it is a valuable facility in an area where the Local Council have done diddly squat, and it will take the County Council to provide.

Castle Point Council have not even provided safe roads in the area for cyclists Church Road Thundersley has potholes so dangerous that cyclists are put at severe risk.

It's not a safe route for cyclists that's being proposed, are you sure you're commenting on the right story? You'll still have to use the roads to get there (unless you can fly) and it doesn't open up the downs to cyclists, they’re already open. I first rode there over 50 years ago and still do from time to time. What the scheme does do is concrete over another little piece of Hadleigh Downs. How is that good for anybody?

I also disagree that the council have done nothing for cyclists. The route from Canvey Village to the town centre via the lake is nothing short of excellent. You should give it a try.

Have to agree with Branning. Ride from the council offices in kiln road to morrisons in hadleigh, something that is easy in a car, but on a bike is a road full of lethal pinchpoints, a duel carrigeway with no space for cyclists. Really its about time the council stopped designing roads for the safety of motorized traffic only,

scramble bikes, side car bikes. Greeves Motorcycles manufactured scramble bikes in the 50's, their factory was in Church Road,Thundersley. I remember them testing them up the hill!

We have so much of the stuff, need to get rid of it somehow.

Shared spaces do not work.
It is once again building on green space. A lot of building.
Cash cow for the council when collecting for parking too.
There will be no complaints when people are injured by cyclists but heaven help the cyclists that injures someones dear pooch, then something may be done.

Shared spaces work very well on the continent it appears to be only here that some people have a major problem with cyclists as a whole

Shared spaces work very well, and in this example you only have to take a look at somewhere like Bedgebury in Kent, I was there this last weekend and there were LOTS of people enjoying the countryside, lots of bikers on the bike part, loads of families in the country park and lots of dog walkers too and at many points they all mingled seamlessly because THEY ALL UNDERSTOOD THEY HAD TO SHARE, Bikers gave way to walkers at the junctions of the bike trails with the walking trails, Bikers stuck to the bike trails and walkers stuck to the walkers trails and horse riders stayed on the bridal paths and everyone had a good time, there's no rockets and very little science involved in having a fun time.

Thats awesome, I hope that they do something like this in my town. I have gotten really into biking and it would be nice to get a nice place to ride like this. I got a new bike from http://2wheelbikes.c
