Braintree district: Mencap playscheme closes

A playscheme for disabled children has closed after its funding was cut.

Mencap representatives outside County Hall Representatives from Mencap handed in a 2,000 signature petition to save the playscheme

Forty families had used the Braintree Mencap respite club, which had run for 40 years but lost its funding from Essex County Council and NHS Mid Essex Primary Care Trust.

The charity, based in Braintree, will re-start its Saturday clubs in September, thanks to donations from parents and supporters.

And an Easter holiday scheme could run again next year if it secures a different grant from the council.

The last session was on Saturday.
