A CARE home has submitted a proposal for two more 'close care' bungalows in addition to its existing expansion plans.

St Dominic’s Residential Home in Kelvedon previously had plans accepted to create a two-storey, 21-bed care home together with seven two-bed close care bungalows.

The plans, which were given the green light earlier this year, also include parking and an access road on land to the west of the London Road care home.

The approved scheme originally included nine close care bungalows but the two plots in the northern corner of the site were removed before it was given the green light by the planning committee.

A planning statement said: “Omitting the plots allowed outstanding design issues to be put to one side so planning permission could be granted, and the construction of the approved scheme is now underway.

“The corner of the site was left blank in anticipation of the preparation of a revised scheme and this application shows two more close care bungalows can be delivered in the context of the approved character and appearance of the expansion of St Dominics Care Home.”

The bungalows would be for the over-65s.

Residents would have 24-hour access to a dedicated member of staff via a nurse call system connected to the main home.

They would also have access to staff and facilities at the home for meals, medical and general care.

The application says: “Close care housing appeals to people who like company and need the reassurance of knowing support and help with personal care and meals are readily available, but who also want the security and privacy of their own home with their own front door.

“It is particularly appropriate for couples who have different needs and offers a good alternative to a place in a residential care home.”

Bosses say the bungalows will create a “significant benefit for the area” by “reducing the demands which are made generally on the health and care services in the district”.

Braintree Council will rule on the plans.
