A MENTAL health support group is hosting a walk to get people talking.

WalkAndTalk4Men, is holding their next mental health walk on Saturday November 27, at Great Notley Country Park.

It is an opportunity for any men to join in to get some fresh air and be able to talk openly about their thoughts and emotions.

The group was founded by James Mace two years ago, not long after haring about a local suicide.

Mr Mace, who was born in Witham, wanted to set up the group to create a safe space within the community.

The first walk was in April of 2019, which spread the word and got others involved, one of which was Alex MacGregor.

Alex is 32, from White Court in Braintree, and said how he got involved after he heard about it on social media.

He said: “I heard about it online as I was looking for a walking group anyway.

“I really wanted to get involved, which eventually lead me to leading my own walks in Braintree.”

Alex further explained the idea behind it is to get men to talk about their emotions and not be afraid to open up.

He said: “We want to help get rid of the stigma that boys shouldn’t cry or be emotional.

“Four of every five suicides globally a day are by men, and this is a sad statistic that needs to change.

“Any men, or those who identify as men can come down and walk with us, to enjoy the fresh air and talk or listen.”

They are holding their monthly walk in Great Notley on November 27, with breakfast at a local café following the 1-2k walk.

There is also a walk in Witham happening a week earlier on November 14.

The group holds these all over the UK and are regularly looking to expand even further.

Current locations are all over the country, including Preston, Liverpool, Birmingham, Surrey, Brighton and more.

The responses across the country have been great with the group noticing many feeling the positive benefits of their walks.
